Answer by HH Radhanatha Swami
Radhanatha Swami Do you believe there is a place called Australia?
Student: Yes
Radhanatha Swami That means you are not scientific, Why do you believe there is a place called Australia. You have not seen my friend.
Student: It’s a theory it is in globe
Radhanatha Swami Because you have read about it in books.
Student: Yes in geography
Radhanatha Swami : Hah you have met people who have been there?
Student: Yeah
Radhanatha Swami: So you believe it
Student: Yes definitely
Radhanatha Swami: But you have not seen it
Student: No
Radhanatha Swami: So you are believer, yes?
Student: Yes
Radhanatha Swami: So you believe, similarly we read about god in the holy Scriptures, all the holy Scriptures of the world, all the most pure hearted compassionate saintly person of all traditions of all history talk about how they have seen god. So many people even today are coming and telling us their experiences and realisations of god. There is more information of god in books and amongst people than there are people who have been to Australia. Have you seen directly Mahatma Gandhi?
Student: Never
Radhanatha Swami: Do you believe he is the father of India?
Student: Yes
Radhanatha Swami: Haribol, 99.9% of the things that everybody believes true, they have never personally experienced through sense perceptions. Yes? 99% of the places in the world you believe, historical incidents that you believe are never seen! Sun I can cover sun planet with my thumb, yes?
Student: Yes
Radhanatha Swami: : Does that mean my thumb is of same size as sun
Student: No
Radhanatha Swami: How do you know? It’s beyond your sense perception. It is so many millions of times bigger than Europe. We learn it through scientists who have done research; we have not seen it. How do you know who your father is? Were you there at the seen, at the time of conception? Watching you were there but you were not watching. How do you know who is your father is? On the basis of faith. Yes?
Student: Yes
Radhanatha Swami: So everyone has faith, everyone has faith on realities beyond our sense perception, beyond our experiences. But there is reasonable logical scientific faith and there is blind faith. So we should understand god through reasonable logical scientific philosophical faith. And then our belief in god becomes deepest most profound reality of our life. Krishna consciousness is a science; it is not a sectarian dogma. Does that answer your question.
Student: Yes
