It seems there are so many spiritual paths. How do you know that we are on the right one ?

Answer by HH Radhanatha Swami

There are many paths, but we must know that the origin of that path is God. A path that is created by the mind or the brain of man may bring us to certain levels of fulfillment of our subtle or gross desires, but they cannot bring us to the spiritual platform of life. Therefore, the scriptures of the world—whether it be the Vedas, the Grand Sahib of the Sikhs, the Old Testament, the New Testament, the Koran, or the various other religious scriptures of the world—these are the revealed words of God. Great saintly persons are meant to preserve that original word of God. If we study, we will find that there is a common theme within all the bona-fide scriptures and the teachings of all the bona-fide prophets and saints in the world. What is that theme? Our real nature is that we are spiritual. We are part of God. We are not these bodies. To develop our natural love of God and to detach ourselves from the temporary flickering pleasures of this world, that is religion. That is yoga. That is the path of spirituality. By following any path, which is an authorized path being taught by authorized saintly persons, that is actually awakening our natural love of God, we can understand that that is the right path, which is helping us detach ourselves from the superficial things of this world and attaching ourselves to the eternal. That is the test. That religion, that yoga, that spiritual path which awakens our natural love of God is our real path. A guru, his message or his mission, is like that of a postman. A postman does not give you his message. He simply delivers the message that is being sent to you. Correct? So God’s word is for all living beings, and the guru is simply delivering the word of God. He does not  manufacture anything. He does not add or subtract. He simply delivers the pure word of God by his words and by his life. He never claims that he is God, but he claims that he is the humble servant delivering the message of God. To find such a personality or such personalities, to find such an association of persons is the greatest benediction and the greatest good fortune within our life. By that association we become inspired to dedicate ourselves in the loving service of the Lord, and thus our love of God begins to grow. Then we can know for sure that this is the right path.
